Why conversation beats revision
German has a reputation for difficulty that comes almost entirely from cases and word order. Both become instinct through conversation far faster than through tables, because you start hearing when a sentence sounds wrong.
-
You hear real speed
Recordings are slowed down for learners. People are not, and adjusting to that is a skill of its own.
-
Mistakes get caught
A partner tells you that nobody says it that way — the correction a textbook cannot give.
-
You practise recovery
Asking someone to repeat, or rephrasing when you are stuck, is most of what fluency feels like.
-
It is reciprocal
You are useful to them too, which is why nobody is doing you a favour and it stays free.
